Pen-y-ghent (694m; 2276 feet), can be seen from a little further on, with Stainforth Scar in the middle distance.

Pen-y-ghent is another of the Three Peaks, the third being Whernside (736m; 2414 feet), which overlooks the Ribblehead Viaduct (not to be confused with Great Whernside and Little Whernside, near Kettlewell in Wharfedale).

The Three Peaks walk is a circuit of about 40km (25 miles), depending on the exact route, which takes in all three summits. The traditional walkers' challenge is to complete it within 12 hours. (I did, once.)
