Does anyone know where this house is (or possibly was)? The photo is one of many that I have which came from the Duncan family of Otley, Yorkshire, and the people here are believed to be Thomas Duncan and some of his offspring (more on them on the next page).
The photo was probably taken in the early 1900s, and I'd always assumed that the house was in or near Otley. However, other photos in the collection were identified as having been taken in Dover, so could this have been taken there too? The Dover photos are thought to have been taken by John Booth Duncan, one of Thomas's sons, who moved around quite a bit and may have lived there for a time, so could this have been during a visit from his Otley relations?
However, if the house was in or near Otley after all, there are a number of possibilities. Census returns and electoral rolls from that time give the following addresses for Duncan households in Otley:
